The Classic Bride: Weddings in Woodinville 2017 / by Kat St. John

What is a "Classic Bride"?

A classic bride has clean, simple & natural looking makeup that enhances the bride's naturally beautiful features with neutral tones and a soft glow. I would say about 99% of the brides I book are Classic Brides.

As your artist, it is my duty to ensure you look like a more enhanced version of yourself on your wedding day, not a different person. We all look our best when we feel comfortable in our skin, that starts with your makeup! No one wants to look at their photos and have dated makeup like some of those poor flashback brides of the 80's. Just say no to super trendy makeup.  Friends don't let friends wear blue eyeshadow on their wedding day. Consider me that friend!

This year I was lucky enough to be a part of the Weddings in Woodinville show. Our venue was the old Hollywood School house, an old historical building est. 1908. All of the rooms are decked out in antique furniture and lampshades. It is seriously like traveling back in time.

The event is an impressive production that involves multiple vendors and put together somewhat of a "Mock Wedding". Prior to the doors opening up to our 500+ guests, we did a quick styled shoot to showcase everyone's contribution to the show.

Dani has beautiful skin so I wanted to make sure to focus on her features and what we could do to make her stand out without feeling like she was wearing a lot of makeup.

Temptu Hydralock Airbrush Foundation for very light and natural coverage on her skin.
NARS Orgasm Blush on the apples of her cheeks & a very light contour on her temple to base of the cheekbone with Makeup Forever Pro Bonze Fusion in 10M.

Depending on the bride, I will add a very light dust of highligh on the upper cheek bone, bridge of the nose and lips. Not every bride loves the "dewy" look but I felt for this look since we we were focusing on her great skin, it was appropriate.  Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Powder Highlight in "Candle light" is dusted in all the right high points, our venue had tons of beautiful old lamps and chandeliers with warm light giving her a romantic glow.

The gowns from Frankie and Maude were so classic, clean and beautiful, I wanted to keep her hair simple to compliment not only her dress, but the overall theme as well as my bride's personality. I curled her hair and set it while we did her makeup, her curls lasted all day and by the end of the event still held a beautiful vintage soft wave that was effortless and could easily be put up later in the evening.

The hair piece was just a little something I had laying around, it is actually two clips (and very inexpensive, I might add).

Our team was so amazing! Cheers to the vendors who came together to create this beautiful set up for our 2017 THEME - MINIMAL, YET DRAMATIC
